Welcome Visitors
Thank you for your interest in the Ancient Order Of Hibernians and for visiting
our website. The site provides some history and background for our division.
The AOH is the oldest Irish Catholic fraternal organization in the world and is
founded on the principles of Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity. The Irish
in America come from an amazing variety of backgrounds and there is no single definition
of what it means to be Irish. Perhaps, like me, your interest is to enhance your
understanding and appreciation of Irish culture and history. When and where your
ancestors arrived in this country and what they did to make a living most likely
influence what it means to you to be Irish. Participation in the brotherhood of
the A.O.H. can add to the enjoyment of Irish culture and provide a better understanding
of where we came from and what it means to be Irish and Catholic in America today.
Since receiving our National Charter in May of 2002, we have continued to grow in
membership and expand our presence and influence in the greater Kansas City area.
We work hard to live up the Hibernian ideals of friendship, unity and charity. We
have raised many thousands of dollars for various charities, including; Children
for Peace in Ireland, Harvester's Food Bank, Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade
Committee and Operation Breakthrough.
Through the Speak out for Stephanie Foundation we provided finger printing and identity
cards for over 2,000 children in various parishes and provided safety tips and hopefully
some peace of mind to their parents. We sponsored Pipe & Drum bands to travel
to the local area to perform. We collected hundreds of international calling card
minutes for use by hospice nuns to call home to their native countries. Our Members
were instrumental in obtaining funds to help build 9-11 Memorial in rural Anthony,
KS .
The best part of all is that we manage to have a great time enjoying the fellowship
of our Hibernian Brothers while helping others. We even took possession of a vintage
fire truck for use in parades and safety functions. These are just some of the highlights.
We've done much more and will continue to do so. Please check out our Photos section
to see what we're all about.
If you're a practicing Catholic of Irish birth or descent and would like to learn
more about the Ancient Order of Hibernians please use the contact information on
our site. I'm proud to be a member of this fine organization. You will be, too!
